SERIES: MSM – WHO’S YOUR NEIGHBOR? | 4 WEEKS ON LOVING OTHERS
SERIES OVERVIEW (DOWNLOAD SERIES OVERVIEW)
Middle school is full of friendships, shifting social circles, awkward moments, and questions about where we belong. In this series, students will discover that Jesus doesn’t just tell us to love people — He shows us what that love looks like. From crossing uncomfortable boundaries to understanding the Gospel and pointing others to Jesus, students will learn that loving their neighbor is more than being nice — it’s reflecting the heart of Christ.
OVERVIEW FOR EACH WEEK IN THIS SERIES:
3.1- WEEK 1 – The Good Samaritan Pt.1
TEXT: Luke 10:25-37
BIG IDEA: Jesus calls us to love everyone, even those who don’t think, live, or believe like us.
SUMMARY: In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus challenges the idea of picking and choosing who deserves love. Students will learn that loving their neighbor isn’t about convenience or comfort — it’s about compassion in action. This week invites students to notice the people they might normally overlook and choose to treat everyone with dignity and respect.
3.8- WEEK 2 – The Good Samaritan Pt.2
TEXT: Luke 10:25-37; Romans 5:8
BIG IDEA: Jesus came to rescue us when we couldn’t rescue ourselves.
SUMMARY: Before we can truly love our neighbor, we have to understand how much we need rescuing. This week presents the clear message of the Gospel: sin separates us from God, but Jesus stepped in and paid the price we couldn’t pay. Students will see that loving others doesn’t earn God’s love — it flows from having received it
3.15- WEEK 3 – The Samaritan Woman at the Well
TEXT: John 4:1-42
BIG IDEA: The Gospel has the power to tear down walls and open hearts.
SUMMARY: Through Jesus’ interaction with the Samaritan woman, students will see that Jesus moves toward people others avoid. He doesn’t shame or label — He invites and restores. This week challenges students not to avoid the people Jesus would move toward and reminds them that no one is too far from God’s love.
3.22- WEEK 4 – Jesus Feeds the 5,000
TEXT: John 6:1-15, 35
BIG IDEA: Our love isn’t just to make us look good — it’s meant to point others to Jesus.
SUMMARY: When Jesus fed the 5,000, the miracle wasn’t the final goal — it was a sign pointing to something greater. In the same way, our acts of kindness and compassion are not the finish line. They are meant to point people to Jesus, the true Bread of Life. Students will learn that loving their neighbor includes being ready to share the reason behind their hope.
