HSM Fall Retreat – Teaching & Small Group Curriculum Overview

Friday PM – Session 1

Session 1: Students will learn that they are made by God on purpose and with a purpose: to know and follow Jesus Christ. (Psalm 139:13-16).

  • Small Group Guide (with answers).
  • Scripture Passages: Psalm 139:13-16
  • Session Snapshot: A foundational truth for a Christ-follower to grasp is knowing that they are made by God. The Sovereign Creator, who is perfect in all of His ways, made each person as a unique image-bearer. As an image-bearer, created in the image of God, we were made by God to be in a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Saturday AM – Session 2  (This will be a separate guys and girls experience). More information to come.

Session 2: Students will understand that the world, our flesh, and the enemy lie to us and cause confusion in our lives. (Eph 2:1-5).

  • Small Group Guide (with answers).
  • Main Scripture: Ephesians 2:1-5
  • Session Snapshot: The world in which we live continually communicates a message of where we should find our identity. The messages the world preaches are filled with lies and lead to confusion, chaos, and death. The Bible tells us where these lies come from and where we go to find truth, order, and life.

Saturday PM – Session 3: Exchanging Hate For Love

Session 3: Students will understand that Christ died in their place, so that now, they have new life and a new identity in Him.

  • Small Group Guide (with answers).
  • Main Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17
  • Session Snapshot: God sent Jesus into the world as the sinless Son of God to save sinners. He died on the cross to save us from sin, death, and hell. When we believe upon Christ and what He has done for us, He forever changes our lives, our eternity, and our identities. Through personal saving faith in Jesus, we become new creations!

Sunday AM – Session 4: Exchanging Comfort for Calling

Session 4: Students will understand that in Christ, who they are is defined by whose they are.

  • Small Group Guide (with answers).
  • Main Scripture: Ephesians 1:3-14
  • Session Snapshot: As students struggle with identity and discovering who they are, it’s essential that we point them to who they are in Christ. God cares how we view ourselves, and in Ephesians 1, God tells us how He sees us. As students discover who they are and what they permanently possess as followers of Jesus, they will be strengthened and established in the truth.
