SERIES: FOLLOW ME | 3  WEEKS ON DISCIPLESHIP

SERIES OVERVIEW (DOWNLOAD SERIES OVERVIEW)

Discipleship is learning the way of Jesus together – walking as He walked, being formed by faithful leaders, and modeling His way for others, together in community. In this three-week series, our goal is to help students understand what discipleship is, what it looks like, why they need it, and how they can join in on God’s greatest mission, together.

OVERVIEW FOR EACH WEEK IN THIS SERIES:

1.11-WEEK 1 – WALKING WITH JESUS

TEXT: 1 John 2:6, Luke 9:23, John 13:15
MAIN QUESTION: What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ?
BIG IDEA: Following Jesus means to live as He lived.
SUMMARY: To say yes to salvation and following Jesus means to accept His way of life and to trust Him to teach you how to live. Discipleship isn’t just about believing in Jesus; it’s about becoming like Him. The truth is, many people want Jesus as their savior, but not as their teacher. We like forgiveness, grace, and heaven, but following Jesus means allowing Him to shape how we live today.

1.18-WEEK 2 – LEARNING THE WAY OF JESU FROM FAITHFUL LEADERS?

TEXT: John 13:12-17, 2 Timothy 2:1-2
MAIN QUESTION: Who will I choose to disciple me?
BIG IDEA: You need trusted leaders to teach you the way of Jesus.
SUMMARY: We live in a culture that values independence, but spiritual maturity grows through safety, trust, humility, and imitation. Without leaders, we often form a Jesus who agrees with us instead of one who transforms us. Today’s message is an encouragement to find someone you trust, who follows Jesus, who can teach you and show you what following Jesus looks like in real time.

1.25-WEEK 3 – MODELING THE WAY OF JESUS FOR ONE ANOTHER

TEXT: Philippians 2:1-5
MAIN QUESTION: Who will I choose to disciple?
BIG IDEA: As followers of Jesus, we model the way of Jesus for one another.
SUMMARY: Not only are we supposed to be discipled, but we are called to disciple one another. Sometimes you’ll be the spiritual leader in a relationship, sometimes the other person, but often you both can teach one another. Recognizing that mutual responsibility is the picture that Jesus had of His church – to love one another, serve one another, and help shape one another into the image of Jesus.
